You could normally find pneumatic forklifts in warehouses and shipping operations. Also called pump trucks or pallet trucks, they are used in order to transport products and supplies around on wooden pallets using metal forks that are mounted on a wheeled counterweight. The counterweight has a pump that lifts the forks off the ground. A pallet truck is designed to be operated by one individual.
To be able to avoid loosing control while raising heavy loads, pallet trucks should always be operated with care. Equipment must be checked prior to operating. Clear the wheels area of any obstacle. Check that the handle turns smoothly. The pallet should be carefully stacked to ensure that nothing will fall off during transportation.
To be able to lower the forks and release air in the pump, squeeze the lever found on the inside of the metal loop on the end of the pallet truck's handle. The forks can then be pushed into the slots of the pallet. The forks should be in the middle to ensure even distribution of the pallet's weight across them. Raise the forks from the ground by pumping the handle of the pneumatic lift until the pallet has completely cleared the ground. Do not lift the pallet very high or the forklift could unbalance.
